My Career so far ...
Andrew is a 25 -year-old Scottish baritone, who moved to Cumbria at an early age. He began singing as a chorister at Carlisle Cathedral and after promotion appointed Head Chorister. He regularly featured as soloist at the cathedral and in choir tours to Dublin, Budapest, Stavanger and the Isle of Man. In 2012 Carlisle Cathedral awarded him a Choral Scholarship. The Royal School of Church Music has given Andrew its highest award, the Gold Medal with Honours. Andrew continues to sing with the Cathedral Choir as a part-time lay clerk for major liturgical services.
At 13 years old Andrew recorded a solo album One Voice for Sony BMG, recorded in Sphere Studios London and produced by Nigel Wright. The album reached No. 4 in the British album charts and ranked on album charts in the USA and Europe. Other recording work has been for the BBC Radio 3 Drama - House of Barnarda Alba at BBC Media City.
In 2017, Andrew completed his undergraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, 4 years prior to this he was a Junior RNCM student. Andrew studied voice with Tenor Jeffrey Lawton and later studied with the International Bass and conductor Mathew Best.
Whilst at the RNCM Andrew was selected to join the Buxton Young Artists Programme (2015) where he was a member of the demon chorus of Verdi's Opera Giovanna d'Arco. Other operatic chorus experience includes Verdi's Nabucca and Aida at Manchester Opera House and Franz Lehar's Merry Widow for the RNCM. As a soloist, Andrew performed the role of Leporello in Don Giovanni and Cavaliere in Verdi’s Un giorno di regno (opera scenes). In 2017, Andrew audioned to study at the world renowned Berlin Opera Academy and was awarded the Michael Castle memorial scholarship.
Andrew has sung with the RNCM Chamber choir at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain at the BBC Proms, London – conductors have included Daniel Barenboim, Marin Alsop, David Hill, Vasily Petrenko and Ben Parry.
Andrew has also appeared as guest soloist in local and regional music festivals such as the Carlisle Music Festival, Lanercost Music Festival. Andrew is a regular performer in the UK and overseas in Oratorio, Lieder and operatic works.
Andrew has just started studying at the Royal Academy of Music and was awarded a full entrance scholarship to study on the Royal Academy of Opera programme (2019-2021), where he shall studying with Mark Wildman as his singing tutor.
